About Michael Banfield

I first picked up a guitar in the 90’s, with a keen interest in indie and alternative rock. I was lucky enough to have an inspirational guitar tutor who introduced me to an array of new music. I was hooked and decided to study music further after high school where I developed a strong interest in classic rock and improvisation. At college and university my playing matured as I studied at an advanced level with a focus particularly on jazz styles.

Teaching

After graduating in 2005 I started teaching professionally at Riffs Guitar Academy. I have also taught guitar in various schools and colleges in Manchester while now I primarily like to teach from my home studio. I am a full member of the Registry of Guitar Tutors (RGT) and I am CRB and DBS checked.

Live

In addition to teaching during the week I also perform live regularly in various professional working bands, performing in many different venues from pubs and night clubs to weddings and business functions.

Sound Production

Aside from guitar playing I also have experience in sound production and have worked in recording studios as well as recording and producing my own music which has seen radio play in the UK and the US. I frequently like to use recording as a learning tool in lessons and can advise students who are interested in getting their own home recording setup.

Guitar Repair

Another thing I have a keen interest in is guitar and instrument repair, I was the guitar technician at the first guitar school I worked at and while I don't have the time to undertake major repairs any more, I can certainly offer students help with advise on guitar maintenance and setup and perform minor repairs.
